Getting more support

If you’ve read our other pages but still need help, we’re here.

Whether you have a quick question or need more in-depth support, there are lots of ways to get in touch.

Our app makes checking your tax easy

Our free HMRC app is the simplest way to see your tax code, find your National Insurance number, check how much tax you owe and make payments.

You can also use it to update your details and keep track of anything you’ve posted to us. Plus, you can ask HMRC’s digital assistant for help if you need any.

You can find out more about our app on GOV.UK.

How to reach us

We have a webchat service and a Relay UK Text Service that you can message whenever you need. You can find out more about these on GOV.UK.

And you can get in touch through your online account too. If you don’t have one yet, it’s quick to set one up on GOV.UK.

You can also contact us through our helplines from Monday to Friday. Find the phone number that best fits your needs on GOV.UK.

Extra support is available if you need it

We know that life can be unpredictable and that when things become difficult, it can be much harder to keep on top of tax.

That’s why we have an extra support team on hand to give you more time if you need it, help you fill out forms, or arrange a chat with us in a way that works best for you.

You may need extra support if you:

  • are neurodiverse
  • have a disability
  • have mental health issues
  • have recently lost a loved one

You can get help from HMRC if you need extra support on GOV.UK.

Sometimes we need to check your tax situation – this is called a ‘compliance check’. If you need help with this, you can see all you need to know on GOV.UK.

Someone else can contact us for you

Tax can feel confusing, so we understand that sometimes you need help from someone else. If you wish to do this, you need to give us your permission so that a friend, family member, tax agent or accountant can contact us for you.

This may also be the case if English isn’t your first language, and you need additional help from an interpreter.

Key thing to remember:

If you want someone else to deal with us for you, we’ll need your permission first.
